Piplup learns several moves such as the Water Bubble, Water Sport and Acquapatto (the latter via Help Mosse). Although a Water starter, Piplup can not use the Water Gun attack. The Pokémon can learn Normal and Flying-type moves such as Growl and Botta.

Piplup can learn the moves MN Cut, Surf, Scacciabruma, Diving, Whirlpool and Waterfall.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl attack Piplup uses Surf.
